Contour Pre / EQ & Boost

Contour Pre / EQ & Boost

Update: The Contour Pre has been semi-retired while I concentrate on cool new projects. I’m leaving this page up as a resource.

The Damnation Audio Contour Pre EQ & Boost kind of skirts the line of "Original Heavy Circuits" because, like most things in this business, it's not completely original and not exclusively heavy. But it sounds great so I hope you’ll give it a pass.

The impetus behind the Contour Pre was my love of the Contour button on the old Sunn Coliseum 300 amp. The amp never made the final cut but that little button always stuck with me. After years of playing razor flat or mid-forward rigs, my tastes had a reversal of sorts, and I wanted to inject some thickness and punch back into my live sound at the push of a button. That goal brought back visions of my old Sunn rig.

I started out wanting to capture the soul of the original circuit but needed to make revisions to modernize the design and to make the frequency boosting more subtle and musically useful. The Contour Pre boosts the lows (around 90Hz) and highs (around 4 kHz) about 4-6dB which makes your tone instantly thicker and helps boring amps, lifeless basses, or anemic pedals stand out in the mix. The best way I can describe the Contour Pre is that you’ll miss it when it’s not on.

Gain: Controls the amount of input gain.

Use only 9VDC 2.1mm center negative (boss-style) power adapters. Isolated pedal specific power supplies are highly recommended. Damnation Audio pedals are designed for maximum headroom and ideal performance with a 9V supply. Going above 9VDC will damage your pedal and void any warranties. Damnation Audio pedals do not accept 9V batteries.
